Purrfect New Years Resolutions For Frisky Cats

Happy New Year! As we leave this year behind and start the new one, many of our feline patients are spending the day playing with new toys, or maybe just relaxing with their humans. Whether you’re making resolutions or not, it’s probably safe to say that your furball has a few things on her agenda. Lazy cats may just want to sleep through most of the year. Playful ones, however, have some loftier goals. Read on as a Sherman Oaks, CA veterinarian lists some resolutions for frisky kitties.

Work On Sprint Speed

Did you know that the average house cat can run as fast as 30mph? Fluffy may try to get up to full kitty speed when running from the kitchen to the bedroom.

Purrfect High Jumps

Fluffy is also no slouch when it comes to jumping. Most kitties can jump about 5 or 6 times their height, which is usually about 4 or 5 feet. Of course, your pet may try to practice these skills by hopping up onto a counter. Nip that habit in the bud by squirting her with water or making a loud noise when she does this.

Stay Flexible

Our feline friends have a remarkable ability to twist themselves into shapes we usually associate with knots, constellations, or pretzels … and then fall asleep that way. Fluffy may want to stretch a bit more this year.

Investigate Everything

We’re not exactly fans of that old saying about how curiosity killed the cat, but we do understand where it came from. Fluffy is extremely inquisitive, and likes to investigate pretty much everything in her domain. Keep your furball safe by doing some petproofing. Be extra careful with toxic plants, wires and cords, small or sharp items, and anything that poses a choking or entanglement risk.

Entertain The Human

If you have a cat, you’re basically living with a furry, four-legged, meowing comedian. Fluffy will put some smiles on your face with her silly antics this year!

Get Toys Back From The Void

Do you find a small mountain of cat toys every time you move your couch? Your feline buddy may be hoping to retrieve some of those missing catnip mice later.

Everyone here at Healing Touch Veterinary Wellness Center, your Tarzana, CA animal clinic, wish you a wonderful new year. Please contact us for your frisky kitty’s veterinary care needs.
